Rosy Pink Nails

Ah, where to begin with this one!

Doing this set of nails was laborious to say the least. You know when you start doing your nails and you have a fairly simple image in your head, but as you start to paint them and whatnot, you think 'hmm, that looks a bit plain, I'll add something there' and 'oh, what about doing this topcoat on it' et cetera, and before you know it, you're suffering from hand cramp and eye strain thinking 'why, WHY did I start this?' at 1 o'clock in the morning? Heh... yeah.

Well, lucky for you, I'm not going to go through all the stages of thought I had while doing this because a) I wouldn't want to bore you, and b) honestly, I can't even remember at this point... such a blur.

Anyway! I found some leftover bits of my favourite water decals, also used in this post from 3 and a half years ago (wow, time flies!) and used them initially on my ring finger but then, during my never ending 'ideas' I cut bits up and put them on my index finger and thumb too. The index finger and middle finger both have gradients from white to pink (from lightest to darkest pink, the polishes used were Barry M - Rose Hip, Nails Inc - Kensington Square, and Rimmel Pro - Show Off), and I went over them with a coat of Barry M - Crystal Glaze. I added a little pearl stud to the thumb and middle finger... for some reason. My pinky had the easiest time here, with just a coat of Nails Inc - Kensington Square (like what was used as the main colour on the thumb) and 2 coats of glittery GOSH - Girls on Film.

Well I think I covered everything while avoiding all the boring stages between one layer and another! It's obviously far more tiring when you're doing nails you actually want to go out in public with because you have to do both hands, and ambidextrous I am not! It's strange though - even though doing my nails can start feeling a bit tedious after spending hours on them, I still really enjoy it!

Hello everyone... and hello to July! Time for Nails Inc's Polish Diary again! This month is a lovely neon pink shade called Notting Hill Gate.

(I'm not holding the bottle this month, oops!) ANYWAY, I applied 2 coats of the polish over a (very thin!) white base, to help the colour pop a bit more. It's quite transparent so I recommend using a white polish underneath, preferably fully opaque though!

I really like this colour, especially for this time of the year, it's so darn cheery! Don't apply it too thick though, because it will bubble, and you will be annoyed, haha!

It's May Day, which means it's time for Nails Inc's polish of the month - Fulham Palace Gardens! It is a pink coloured polish with multi-coloured glitter, as you can see!

It looks very close to Barry M Pink Sequin Nail Effects which has the same colours but is textured, while Nails Inc is not. Therefore, I painted the thumb and index finger with Barry M to contrast it. I'm not the world's biggest fan of either really - I kind of think it's a bit much and just looks a bit random but that's just my thought on it.

Nails Inc: 'My Nail Polish Diary' - April

It is the 1st of April, and we know what that means! No, I'm not talking about April Fools' Day, but rather the April polish from Nails Inc's Polish Diary, Sloane Avenue!

This is a lovely 'neon' coral/pink shade, perfect for Spring/Summer -- just a shame the weather doesn't reflect that. I mean really, I am so sick of rain/fog!

Anyway, I applied one coat to the thumb and index finger and 2 coats on the rest to give you an idea of the consistency. It is kind of thin as you can see, but 2 coats seems fine, and after 2 coats, it is nice and glossy (I am not using a topcoat in the pictures).

I'm rather busy so I'll just leave it there, but I definitely love this colour!

Last post of 2013!

Just like last year, the 'New Year Nails' post, which can be found here, it's just a very random design. I mean, I very literally just opened up polishes and tapes, making it up as I went along (which, trust me, I rarely do).

I mainly just wanted to do another post before the bells chime, and wish you all a lovely and happy new year! I will be watching the TV as usual, singing Auld Lang Syne and watching some fireworks, haha. No 'New Years Resolutions' for me this year, however I am hoping at least do a post every month (I hate not doing any posts for months on end!).
By the way, the pink used is Rimmel Cocktail Colour '140 Hawaiian Punch', with Barry M glitters 'Amethyst', 'Christmas Glitter 2012', 'Ruby Glitter' and limited edition 'Tinsel Town'... yeah, told you it was random!

I will have a new post tomorrow! :)

Maybelline Color Show 'Electric Pink' and 'Orange Fix' Review

This review might contain more pictures than writing - not sure if that is a good or a bad thing!

I bought these two Maybelline Color Show polishes last week, they are part of a Neons range, which only contained another two colours; a green and a purple. Seeing as I didn't want to spend all my money on nail polish that day, I took about 10 minutes deciding which two to get (so indecisive!).

 The first thing I want to say about these polishes is that there was actually a sign in the display saying that it looks better and more 'neon' when painted over a white base - so in all the pictures, I have done 2 coats of the polish on the index and middle finger, and 1 white coat covered with 1 coloured coat on the ring finger and pinky so that you are able to see the difference - which I think is pretty evident.

So here is 'Electric Pink', and I have to say I much prefer it over a coat of white (although maybe 2 coats over white would look a bit nicer than just 1).

Don't for a minute think that this will glow in the dark by the way, just have to get that out there! I'm currently sitting in near darkness and I can barely see the colour on my nails as I type.

 The next is 'Orange Fix'. Again I think it looks a lot nicer over white - I think it's too sheer to be used on its own (you can still see the nail whites after 2 coats in the pictures).

I normally would avoid these kinds of colours - really bright colours are not exactly something I go for often, however it's summer so I thought, 'what the heck!?' and I think bright colours like these are great at this time of year!

The last thing I'm going to say that I think are kind of seen in the pictures, is that they do not exactly dry very shiny, so I'd recommend putting a top coat over it if that's what you like.

SpaRitual Miss World Review

 So today I am quite excited to be reviewing a couple of SpaRitual polishes that were sent to me by the lovely Rachel over at NSI nails!

SpaRitual get some brownie points from me just for being Big-3 Free (they contain no DBP, formaldehyde or toluene) and they also exclude formaldehyde resin and camphor, yay! In addition, if you are a vegan then this is suitable for you too! The polishes come in generous 15ml bottles with a rubbery, easy to grip handle (a feature I wish was present in all nail polish bottles based on the amount of times in the past where I had accidentally closed the bottle too tightly meaning I had to fight to open it the next time I used it).

The first of the polishes I am reviewing is 'Miss World' which is a lovely sort of coral pink colour. I've really been getting into pinks lately so I was really happy to try this one out. It is classified as a shimmer and I really like that it is quite a subtle shimmer which is enough to give it a nice shine when the light hits it, but not too much that it looks glitzy.

It's somewhat difficult to capture the shimmer with the camera, but it can be seen in the picture of the bottle on the right, and if you zoom in on the nails too. I have left the ring finger with one coat, while applying two coats to the rest of the nails, just so you can see the sheerness of the polish, which I really like.

As you can see, I took photos both with and without flash to give you an idea of what it looks like fairly.

In terms of application, this brush is really good - it's not the widest of brushes so when I first saw it I thought I might have some trouble getting it to spread evenly on the nails because often for me, the polish gets tacky before I've even finished painting the nail and it just looks lumpy. However, that wasn't the case here, and the polish was thin enough to spread easily. It's thin but very pigmented, which is always my favourite! When it dries, it is really shiny and in my opinion, looks just as shiny as some of the polishes out there that are not Big-3 Free so I was pleasantly surprised!

Overall, you get a sense of quality just by picking up the bottle, and application was the easiest I've had in a while so I'm really liking this polish! It has a really lovely tone and especially looks good at this time of the year!

Barry M Gelly Hi-Shine Pomegranate Nail Polish

The first thing I'm going to say is 'Boooo' my nails are shorter! I broke 2 of them on my right hand while closing the boot of a car (and no, I didn't close them in it, I went to pull it down and my hand slipped so bye-bye nails! I decided to cut all of them the same while I was at it. It doesn't actually bother me to be honest because it's a bit easier to type, especially on a tablet which is what I'm writing on right now. I'm so dedicated to this blog I'm writing this on a 8.40am train *yawn*.

So to the actual polish... thumbs up, my friends! The pictures don't have any topcoat or anything. I painted the ring finger nail with Barry M Gold Foil and put 2 coats of Technic 'Carnival' that I bought in the weekend, I love this glitter! Partly because the glitter doesn't cause the nail to feel rough and the clear polish itself is really good at making the nail shine.

The Pomegranate shade is a really lovely and certainly quite a fun colour to use!

No7 Stay Perfect Cheeky Chops Nail Polish

Here's a really lovely summer nail polish, Cheeky Chops 240 by No7 at Boots. These nail polishes are, in my opinion, really nice and are quite pigment rich. In the pictures, I put two coats on each nail apart from the ring finger which only has one. As you can see, it is a little easier to see the nail and appears slightly duller than the others but otherwise is actually pretty good!


No7 polishes are very nice but I must admit, I wouldn't buy any if it wasn't for the £5 off vouchers which Boots gives out from time to time as £7 for them is a little steep for these in my opinion.

In the second picture here, I am showing a little bit of nail art using this nail polish as the centre of the flowers using a dotting tool to create this and the petals. The base is the nail polish used in the previous post - Fearne Cotton Mint Green.
